Top 6 tools for accounts payable automation
Six tools that move a vendor invoice from the inbox to a payment.
Some publish their prices and suit smaller teams, one is built for paying suppliers across many countries and entities, and two sell to mid-market AP teams that keep the ERP as the system of record.
Each entry names the AI features, the accounting systems it syncs with and the catch.

1
ChatFin
ChatFin is an AI agent platform for finance and accounting teams that connects to a company's existing ERP and runs close, AP, reconciliation and reporting work, routing each posting to a named approver.
Best for
AP teams on NetSuite, SAP, JD Edwards, Dynamics 365, Acumatica, Sage Intacct, Oracle Fusion or QuickBooks that want invoice intake, matching and coding done inside their ERP, with payment release kept with a person.
What it does
- Takes invoices from email, supplier portal or EDI and extracts vendor, amount, line items, PO number and payment terms.
- Matches invoices to POs and goods receipts in the ERP within policy tolerances, handles partial receipts and unit-of-measure differences, and flags each mismatch with detail.
- Codes lines to GL account, cost center, department and project from vendor history; for non-PO invoices it proposes coding and an approver for a person to release.
- Routes approvals by amount, vendor, cost center or category through email or native ERP workflow, checks duplicates against prior payment runs, and compares payee bank details with the last successful payment before release.
AI features
- Document AI
- Module that extracts and classifies invoices, remittances, contracts and receipts and pushes structured data to the ERP.
- Automation AI
- Module that runs the invoice workflow from extraction and PO match through controller approval to ERP posting, with approval gates and exception routing.
- Compliance AI
- Module that tracks SOX controls, expense policies, vendor limits and approval thresholds and flags exceptions.
Connects to
Oracle NetSuite, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business One, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Acumatica, Sage Intacct, Oracle Fusion Cloud, QuickBooks Online.
Writes back through each ERP's own posting logic (for example BAPIs for SAP S/4HANA and SuiteScript for NetSuite AP matching). No bank, card or payment network connection is described.
Pricing
No pricing is published; ChatFin sells through demos, and its free trial page says the trial is open to selected companies only.
Watch out for
ChatFin schedules approved invoices and checks payee details, but its AP page does not describe sending payments, so payment execution stays in the ERP or bank. Its payment capability is narrower than payment-focused AP tools that handle vendor onboarding and global payouts.
2
BILL Accounts Payable
BILL Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BILL). bill.com
Cloud AP software that captures invoices, routes them for approval and pays vendors by ACH, virtual card, international wire or check.
Best for
Small and midsize businesses and accounting firms.
What it does
- Invoice capture from a dedicated AP email inbox, PDF upload or phone photo, with OCR extraction for review.
- Configurable approval routing with mobile approvals, plus 2-way and 3-way matching against purchase orders and receipts and duplicate bill flagging.
AI features
- Invoice Coding Agent
- Automatic AI multi-line bill coding. Included on Team, Corporate and Enterprise plans, not Essentials.
Connects to
QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Pro, QuickBooks Premier, QuickBooks Enterprise, Xero, Oracle NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Acumatica, Rillet.
Pricing
Essentials $49 per user per month, Team $65 per user per month, Corporate $89 per user per month, Enterprise custom pricing.
Watch out for
The Essentials plan has no automatic accounting sync (manual CSV only) and no AI bill coding, and sync with NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Microsoft Dynamics sits on the custom-priced Enterprise plan.
3
Ramp Bill Pay
Ramp (private). ramp.com
Ramp's AP module, combined with its corporate cards and expense management.
Best for
Small businesses and fast-growing companies, mid-sized companies that want AP, cards and expenses in one platform, and multi-entity organizations.
What it does
- OCR invoice capture of each detail and line item (Ramp claims 99% accuracy).
- Two-way and three-way matching of invoices against purchase orders and receipts.
AI features
- Agents for AP (auto-coding, fraud, approval and payment agents)
- Four agents launched 7 October 2025: line-by-line GL coding, fraud checks using 60-plus signals before approval, approval summaries with a recommendation, and identifying card-eligible bills to pay for cashback. Auto-coding and approval recommendations are Ramp Plus only.
Connects to
QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Workday, Oracle Fusion Cloud.
Pricing
Free: $0/mo/user.
Watch out for
AI auto-coding and approval recommendations need Ramp Plus, and the Free plan's accounting integrations are limited to QuickBooks Online and Xero.
4
Stampli
Stampli (private). stampli.com
Procure-to-pay platform built around invoice collaboration, covering procurement, AP, vendor management, payments and expenses.
Best for
Finance and AP teams that want AP automation on top of their existing ERP.
What it does

Which one fits
You run NetSuite, SAP or JD Edwards and want matching and coding done inside the ERP
Pick ChatFin. ChatFin matches invoices to POs and receipts in the ERP and posts through each ERP's own logic, such as SuiteScript for NetSuite. Its AP page does not describe sending payments, so payment execution stays in the ERP or bank, and it publishes no prices.
You are a small business or accounting firm on QuickBooks or Xero
Pick BILL Accounts Payable. BILL syncs two ways with QuickBooks Online and Xero from the Team plan at $65 per user a month and pays by ACH, virtual card, wire or check. Essentials at $49 has manual CSV only and no AI bill coding, and NetSuite or Sage Intacct sync needs the custom-priced Enterprise plan.
You pay suppliers in many countries
Pick Tipalti Accounts Payable. Tipalti pays to 200+ countries and territories in 120 currencies and runs a tax engine for IRS and DAC7 forms. The $99 a month starting price excludes per-invoice and per-payment fees and add-on modules.
You run a mid-market real estate, construction or nonprofit business with mostly US suppliers
Pick AvidXchange. AvidXchange integrates with Yardi, MRI, Rent Manager, Blackbaud and MIP Fund Accounting, and its AvidPay Network has paid more than 1.5 million suppliers. A third-party comparison site calls it North America focused, and it publishes no prices.
Questions to ask in a demo
- Which ERP sync is on which plan, and what does that plan cost?
- What are the per-invoice and per-payment fees on top of the subscription?
- Who sends the payment: your platform, our ERP or our bank?
- Which countries and currencies can you pay suppliers in today?
How we chose
We picked six tools for the job and checked every capability, integration and price on the vendor's own pages on 9 October 2026, or on a filing or news report. Figures are the vendors' own claims unless noted.
One well-known vendor was on our starting list, but its product pages blocked our checks, so we could not confirm its AP features or pricing and left it out.
