Buyer guides / Top 6 AI tools for FP&A teams
Top 6 AI tools for FP&A teams
Five planning tools for FP&A teams, plus ChatFin, which analyses ERP actuals next to whichever planning tool you run. One sits at the enterprise end, while two let a team keep working in Excel or Google Sheets.
Each planning vendor now sells AI features on top of its model, so every entry says what that AI does, what the tool connects to, what it costs where the price is public, and where it falls short.

1
ChatFin
ChatFin is an AI agent platform for finance and accounting teams that connects to a company's existing ERP and runs close, AP, reconciliation and reporting work, routing each posting to a named approver.
Best for
FP&A and controller teams that want variance commentary and forecast updates drawn straight from ERP actuals. The site does not describe building budgets or driver-based plans.
What it does
- Budget vs actual analysis, forecast variance analysis, cost trend analysis and working capital analysis, with plain-English commentary.
- Cash position tracking, cash flow forecasting and liquidity monitoring, with scenario planning support.
- On JD Edwards, splits an account movement by document type and returns the batch behind each component, so accounting entries are not read as business activity.
- Answers ad hoc questions about finance data in natural language with drill-down.
AI features
- Analytics AI
- Module that produces variance analysis with written commentary, anomaly detection, forecasts from live ERP data, and KPI monitoring with alerts.
- Natural language query interface
- Listed as an output of the Reporting and Analytics use case: users ask questions of finance data in plain English and drill into the answer.
Connects to
Oracle NetSuite, Oracle Fusion Cloud, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Sage Intacct, Acumatica, QuickBooks Online, Workday, Snowflake, Epicor Kinetic, Infor CloudSuite, Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT.
Analysis runs on ERP and warehouse data queried in place through native APIs, including a Snowflake connector. No connector to a planning tool and no Excel add-in is described.
Pricing
No pricing is published; ChatFin sells through demos, and its free trial page says the trial is open to selected companies only.
Watch out for
ChatFin works as an analysis layer on ERP actuals. Its pages do not describe budget creation, driver-based models or an Excel add-in, so teams would still need a separate tool to build and own the plan.
2
Cube
Cube Planning, Inc. (private, New York). cubesoftware.com
FP&A platform for planning, forecasting and reporting that pulls financial data from many systems into one data layer with access controls and lets finance teams work on it from Excel, Google Sheets or Cube's web app.
Best for
Finance and FP&A teams that want to keep working in spreadsheets; Cube's pricing tiers run from 'growing finance teams getting started' (Bronze) to 'enterprise FP&A' (Gold).
What it does
- Works where finance already works: Cube web, Excel and Google Sheets, Slack and Teams, PowerPoint and Google Slides, and BI tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI).
- Planning and modeling for revenue, cash flow, headcount, scenarios and the annual budget.
AI features
- Agent teams and Super Agent
- Four agent teams: Data Managers (mapping and reconciliation), Analysts (variance and root-cause analysis), Planners (forecasts and scenarios) and Business Partners (board decks and executive narratives), coordinated by a Super Agent. The pricing page lists the agent teams as included in every plan.
Connects to
NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, SAP, Oracle, Xero, Salesforce, HubSpot, Workday, ADP Workforce Now, Rippling, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Stripe.
Pricing
Quote-based.
3
Datarails
Datarails (private, Tel Aviv and New York). datarails.com
Finance platform that consolidates financial and operational data into one place and lets FP&A teams keep working in Excel.
Best for
Finance teams that run on Excel; Datarails says its FP&A product is built for Excel users.
What it does
- Consolidates data from 600+ sources into one central data set that FP&A works on from Excel.
- Storyboards turn financial data into presentation-ready material for management and board meetings.
AI features
- Strategy Agent
- Handles high-level planning questions and trade-offs and turns financial data into options and suggested actions.
Connects to
Oracle NetSuite, Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP Business One, HubSpot, Salesforce, Snowflake, Power BI, ADP, Workday, Paychex, MRI Software, Yardi.
Pricing
Quote-based.

The product is built around Excel.
4
Planful
Planful (private, San Francisco; formerly Host Analytics). planful.com
Financial performance management platform covering planning, close, consolidation and reporting.
Best for
Mid-market and enterprise organisations that want planning, consolidation and reporting in one system.
What it does
- Four modules: Plan, Close, Consolidate and Report; Consolidate promises to roll up every entity in hours.
- Forecasts and anomaly flags come from the Planful Predict engine, and Planful says they trace back to actual financial data.
AI features
- Analyst Assistant
- Answers finance questions in natural language and explains what drives the numbers. Launched 8 October 2025.
Connects to
NetSuite, Oracle, Workday, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, Salesforce, HubSpot, Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake.
Pricing
No prices published.
Watch out for
On PeerSpot (2 reviews), an FP&A Finance Manager says Planful's dashboards are less usable than BI tools such as Tableau, and a Financial Analyst says the simulation engine has a learning curve.
5
Pigment
Pigment (private, Paris and San Francisco). pigment.com
Cloud business planning platform for finance, sales, HR and supply chain teams.
Best for
Pigment does not state a target company size.
What it does
- FP&A and consolidation on one platform: Pigment added Financial Consolidation in September 2025 and made it available to all customers.
- Change an assumption or structure once and the update flows through every linked plan.
AI features
- Analyst Agent
- Scans metrics, finds trends, flags anomalies and builds reports. Launched in private preview in March 2025; Pigment said on 10 September 2025 it was available to all customers.
Connects to
NetSuite, Sage Intacct, SAP.
Pricing
Not published.
Watch out for
Parts of the agent lineup are not shipped yet: the Planner Agent (scenario simulation and recommendations) is labelled 'Coming soon' on Pigment's AI page, and the September 2025 launch release listed the Consolidation Agent as upcoming.
6
Anaplan
Anaplan (private equity owned; Thoma Bravo agreed to buy it for about $10.7B in March 2022, per CIO.com: https://www.cio.com/article/100023636/thoma-bravo-acquires-software-firm-anaplan-for-10-7b.html). anaplan.com
Connected planning platform used for financial, sales, supply chain and workforce planning.
Best for
Large enterprises.

- Named finance applications: Integrated Financial Planning, Profitability Analysis, Consensus Margin Planning, Subscription Revenue Planning, Financial Consolidation, Disclosure Management and Financial Reporting.
AI features
- Finance Analyst (AI agent)
- Monitors performance, automates month-end work and flags deviations for financial planning and consolidation. Part of a set of role-based agents that also includes Sales, Supply Chain and Workforce Analysts.
Connects to
SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon S3, Azure, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
Pricing
No pricing published.
Watch out for
Cost and support are recurring complaints on PeerSpot: a Director of Finance Systems calls the licensing cost 'on the higher side' and rates technical support poorly, and a Lead Anaplanner wants a less complex deployment process.

Which one fits
You already have a planning tool and want variance commentary written from ERP actuals
Pick ChatFin. ChatFin writes budget vs actual and forecast variance commentary from live ERP data and answers questions in plain English. It does not build the plan.
Your team wants to keep planning in Excel or Google Sheets
Pick Cube. Cube works from Excel, Google Sheets, Slack and Teams, and its pricing page includes the four agent teams on every plan. All three plans are quote only, with API access sold as an add-on.
Your team lives in Excel and builds the board pack by hand
Pick Datarails. Datarails pulls data from 600+ sources into one governed source that FP&A works on from Excel, and Storyboards turn it into board material. CFO Dive reported in January 2026 that its AI in Excel feature was still due later in the year, so check what is live.
You want planning, close, consolidation and reporting in one mid-market system
Pick Planful. Planful sells Plan, Close, Consolidate and Report modules, and its Planner Assistant has been generally available since 29 April 2026. PeerSpot reviewers say its dashboards are less usable than BI tools such as Tableau.
You want finance, HR and sales plans on one model
Pick Pigment. Change an assumption once in Pigment and it flows through every linked plan, and its HR planning ties hiring plans to cost and margin. The Planner Agent for scenarios is still marked coming soon, so judge it on what ships today.
You are a large enterprise with consolidation, profitability or subscription revenue planning to run
Pick Anaplan. Anaplan sells named applications for consolidation, profitability analysis and subscription revenue planning, and says nearly half the Fortune 50 plan with it. PeerSpot reviewers flag high licensing cost and a complex deployment, and no prices are published.
Questions to ask in a demo
- Which of the agents you just showed are generally available today, and which are in preview or marked coming soon?
- Which ERP and HR connectors are live now, and which are on the roadmap?
- What will year one cost once modules, add-ons, API access and support are in the quote?
- How long did deployment take for a team our size, and who on our side maintains the model afterwards?
How we chose
We picked six tools for the job and checked every capability, integration and price on the vendor's own pages on 9 October 2026, or on a filing or news report. Figures are the vendors' own claims unless noted.
Four other planning tools are covered in the budgeting and forecasting guide instead, so the two lists do not overlap.
