Top 6 budgeting and forecasting tools for mid-market finance teams
Six tools for finance teams moving the budget and the rolling forecast out of spreadsheets. One connects to any ERP or general ledger. One runs inside Excel and the rest of Microsoft 365. Two sell to the mid-market and up.
ChatFin rebuilds the forecast every night from ERP actuals and leaves the budget itself to a planning tool. Only one of the six publishes prices, from $10,000 a year.

Best for
Finance teams that keep the budget where it is and want the rolling forecast, variance commentary and a 13-week cash forecast rebuilt from ERP actuals.
What it does
- Rebuilds the forecast every night against actuals and finds the drivers behind each variance.
- Writes budget vs actual and forecast variance commentary in plain English.
- Produces a 13-week cash flow forecast, consolidates cash positions and sends working capital alerts.
- Models scenarios and shows the cash impact of each one.
AI features
- Analytics AI
- Module for predictive forecasting from live ERP data, trend and anomaly detection, and KPI monitoring with alerts.
- Natural language query interface
- Listed as an output of the Reporting and Analytics use case: users ask questions of finance data in plain English and drill into the answer.

Oracle NetSuite, Oracle Fusion Cloud, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Sage Intacct, Acumatica, QuickBooks Online, Workday, Snowflake, Epicor Kinetic, Infor CloudSuite, Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT.
Analysis runs on ERP and warehouse data queried in place through native APIs, including a Snowflake connector. No connector to a planning tool and no Excel add-in is described.
Pricing
No pricing is published; ChatFin sells through demos, and its free trial page says the trial is open to selected companies only.
Watch out for
ChatFin forecasts and explains variances from ERP actuals. Its pages do not describe budget entry by department owners, driver-based models or an Excel add-in, so the budget itself still needs a planning tool.

Which one fits
You keep the budget where it is and want the forecast and 13-week cash view rebuilt every night
Pick ChatFin. ChatFin rebuilds the forecast nightly against ERP actuals, explains the variances and produces a 13-week cash flow forecast. Department heads still enter budgets in a planning tool.
You are a small or VC-funded company and want to see the price before the demo
Pick Jirav. Jirav publishes Starter at $10,000 a year and Pro at $15,000 with implementation and support included, and forecasts the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow together. Its accounting sync is single-currency, one-way and limited to one accounting system.
You are scaling fast on an ERP such as Rillet, Odoo or Zoho Books
Pick Drivetrain. Drivetrain lists 33 ERP and accounting connectors, including Rillet, Odoo and Zoho Books, and an MCP server for Claude Desktop. Expect about two months of expert-led implementation and no published prices.
You are a mid-market company that wants budgeting, close and reporting from one vendor
Pick Prophix. Prophix One covers FP&A, close and consolidation, and reporting, and its Budgeting Agent validates submissions and approvals. PeerSpot reviewers mention slow report exports and an interface some users find hard.
You want to budget in Excel and report in Power BI and PowerPoint
Pick Vena. Vena runs inside Excel and Microsoft 365, and says Business Central users and nonprofits may get discounted pricing. Its Planning Agent launched in open beta in September 2025 and the Scenario Agent is listed as coming soon.
You need one planning tool across a large organisation, whatever ERP you run
Pick Workday Adaptive Planning. Workday says Adaptive connects to any ERP or GL, quotes an average deployment of 4.5 months and offers a free 30-day trial. PeerSpot reviewers say integrations take internal IT know-how to set up.
Questions to ask in a demo
- Which of your planning agents are generally available, and which are open beta or coming soon?
- Does the accounting sync handle multiple currencies and entities, and does it write the budget back to the ledger?
- How many months from signature to our first live budget cycle, and how much IT time does the integration need?
- Which AI features are in the plan you are quoting, and which cost extra?
How we chose
We picked six tools for the job and checked every capability, integration and price on the vendor's own pages on 9 October 2026, or on a filing or news report. Figures are the vendors' own claims unless noted.
One tool on our starting list was acquired in February 2025 and is now sold inside another product, so another tool took its place. We also left out one aimed at small businesses and accountants.
