Buyer guides / Top 6 ERP systems for mid-market companies
Top 6 ERP systems for mid-market companies
Six cloud ERPs for companies that have outgrown entry-level accounting software. Two are the usual shortlist for multi-entity finance teams.
One suits companies that already work in Outlook, Excel and Teams, one prices by usage instead of by user, and one puts finance next to HR for service businesses. One skews smaller and is the only one with a published price list.
Each entry covers the AI that ships in 2026, including which ones let outside assistants connect over MCP.

- 3
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business CentralSmall and midsize businesses that work in Outlook, Excel and Teams.

1
Oracle NetSuite
Oracle Corporation. netsuite.com
Cloud ERP suite covering financial management, supply chain, customer experience and HR on one system.
Best for
Oracle runs a dedicated midsize-business offer built around one suite, real-time dashboards, multi-subsidiary management and automated upgrades.
What it does
- Core accounting: general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, tax management, fixed assets, cash management and payment management.
- Revenue recognition for ASC 606 and IFRS 15, plus subscription billing with automatic renewals and support for multiple pricing models.
AI features
- NetSuite Next and Ask Oracle
- NetSuite Next is the AI-centered version of NetSuite. Its core is Ask Oracle, a chat assistant that queries data, builds reports, opens records and completes tasks from plain-English requests. Customers switch without data migration or reimplementation, and admins grant access by role. Rollout began with release 2026.2 for customers in the United States and Canada.
Connects to
Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Any MCP-compatible AI client, NetSuite Analytics Warehouse, SuiteApp marketplace add-ons.
Pricing
Quote-based.
Watch out for
The MCP connector is narrower than the full product: Oracle's FAQ says it does not support Administrator roles, the MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp 'offers restricted tool capabilities', report tools support only date and subsidiary filters (not accounting periods), and AI clients usually handle about 5,000 rows per call.
2
Sage Intacct
Sage Group plc. sage.com
Cloud accounting and financial management software for growing and mid-sized organizations, covering financials, planning, HR and payroll.
Best for
Sage aims Intacct at growing and midsize businesses, typically with over $4 million in annual revenue or more than 20 employees, especially those with multiple entities and complex accounting.
What it does
- Accounts payable automation that removes repetitive payment tasks, plus accounts receivable tools.
- Dimensions for tagging and analyzing transactions in multiple ways, plus dashboards and reporting.
AI features
- Finance Intelligence agent
- Generative AI assistant that answers questions about any report or transaction, including variance analysis.
Connects to
Salesforce, Sage Marketplace (hundreds of pre-built integrations; homepage says 350+), Open APIs and Sage Intacct Data Flows, AI tools via Sage Intacct AI Gateway (MCP).
Pricing
Quote-based.
Watch out for
Not a quick self-install: Sage recommends using its implementation team and says implementation typically takes 3 to 6 months.
3
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Microsoft. microsoft.com
Microsoft's cloud ERP that connects finance, sales, service and operations, with Copilot and AI agents built in.
Best for
Microsoft sells it to small and midsize businesses, with industry pages for distribution, retail, professional services, construction, energy and nonprofits.
What it does
- Financial management with AI-assisted cash-flow projections.
- Reporting and ad-hoc analysis with Copilot, plus connections to Excel and Power BI.
AI features
- Copilot in Business Central
- Included in the Essentials plan; supports ad-hoc analysis, marketing text suggestions and automated workflows.
Connects to
Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Power BI, Power Automate, Shopify, Copilot Studio, MCP clients (Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot).
Pricing
Essentials $80.00 per user/month, paid yearly.
Watch out for
The headline per-user price does not cover the AI agents: Payables Agent and Sales Order Agent require Copilot Credits sold separately, and an Azure subscription is required to use agents, so agent costs are variable.
4
Acumatica Cloud ERP
Acumatica, Inc.. acumatica.com
Cloud ERP built for small and mid-market companies, with industry editions for construction, manufacturing, distribution, retail and commerce, and professional services.
Best for
Acumatica sells to small and mid-market companies.
What it does
- General ledger and period management with multi-entity, multi-currency, multi-national and multi-book accounting.
- Revenue recognition, deferrals and recurring revenue with compliance support for GAAP, IFRS and ASC 606.
AI features
- Acumatica AI Assistant
- Answers plain-language questions about business data, works with Generic Inquiries, understands the screen or record in view, and returns tables, charts, pivot tables or home-screen widgets, with inherited security.
Connects to
Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, BILL, AvidXchange, Microsoft Excel (via InsightXL), BigCommerce, Acumatica Payments.
Pricing
Quote-based, not per user.
Watch out for
External AI access is limited to what admins publish: Acumatica's AI page says MCP servers connect external AI tools to 'approved, read-only ERP data', so assistants like Claude or ChatGPT can query but not post transactions through this route.
5
Workday Financial Management (Workday GO for midsize companies)
Workday, Inc.. workday.com
Cloud finance system for accounting, close, revenue, spend and reporting that runs on the same platform as Workday's HR and payroll.
Best for
Workday GO is packaged 'for businesses with under 3,500 employees', and Workday says 75% of its customers are below that size.
What it does
- Automatic creation of accounting entries for an in-the-moment view of consolidated financial performance.
- Invoice-to-collections automation aimed at improving invoice accuracy and reducing days sales outstanding.
AI features
- Sana for Workday and Sana Self-Service Agent
- Sana is Workday's AI interface. The Self-Service Agent launched with 300+ skills and handles everyday HR and finance tasks. Both are available to all Workday customers through Workday Flex Credits with no separate license.
Connects to
Workday HCM and Payroll, Workday Adaptive Planning, Salesforce, SharePoint, Google Drive, Gmail, Microsoft Outlook Email and Calendar, Slack, ServiceNow, Box, Notion, Jira, Confluence, Zoom.
Pricing
Quote-based.
Watch out for
Built around services businesses: Workday's finance page cites its Gartner Magic Quadrant position for Cloud ERP for Service-Centric Enterprises, and the Workday GO finance page covers accounting, invoicing and collections, expenses, audit and reporting but does not describe inventory or manufacturing modules.
6
Odoo
Odoo S.A.. odoo.com
Suite of open source business apps (accounting, CRM, sales, inventory, manufacturing, HR, project, e-commerce and more) that share one database.
Best for
Odoo's pricing page routes 1 to 50 employee companies to an expert demo and 250+ employee companies to a project assessment, so it covers smaller firms through the lower mid-market.
What it does
- AI invoice data capture that Odoo says has a 98% recognition rate, leaving users to validate bills.
- Bank synchronization with 28,000 banks; Odoo says 95% of transactions are matched automatically.
AI features
- Odoo AI agents
- Agents with defined roles, instructions and tools that answer questions about business data and complete tasks inside Odoo apps.
Connects to
28,000 banks (bank feeds), Peppol e-invoicing, MCP clients, Gmail and Outlook (personal sending), Twilio (SMS).
Pricing
Published per user per month.
Watch out for
Finance-relevant features sit in the higher tier and AI costs extra: Multi-Company, External API and Agentic AI are listed only on the Custom plan, and the Odoo 20 release notes say 'All AI features now need credits, which can be bought via IAP.'

Which one fits
You have several subsidiaries and want one cloud suite for finance and operations
Pick Oracle NetSuite. NetSuite consolidates across subsidiaries and regions and handles ASC 606 revenue recognition and subscription billing. Its MCP connector does not support Administrator roles, and its report tools filter by date and subsidiary only, with no accounting period filter.
You run several entities in services, nonprofit or SaaS and have more than $4 million in revenue
Pick Sage Intacct. Sage pitches Intacct at companies over $4 million in revenue or 20 employees with multiple entities, and its AI 3-way matching in AP has been generally available since May 2026. Plan for a 3 to 6 month implementation, with a sandbox sold as an extra module.
Your team already works in Outlook, Excel and Teams and wants a list price
Pick Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Essentials is $80 per user a month and Premium $110, paid yearly, with Copilot included in Essentials. The Payables and Sales Order agents need Copilot Credits and an Azure subscription on top.
Questions to ask in a demo
- Which AI agents come with the per-user price, and which run on credits or a separate subscription?
- Can an outside AI assistant post transactions through your MCP connection, or only read data?
- Is the AI release you demoed live for companies in our country today?
- How long does implementation take for a company our size, and are sandbox environments extra?
Where ChatFin fits
ChatFin is not an ERP. It connects to NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Acumatica, Workday and other ERPs, and its AI agents run close, AP, reconciliation and reporting work inside whichever one you pick, routing each posting to a named approver.
How we chose
We picked six tools for the job and checked every capability, integration and price on the vendor's own pages on 9 October 2026, or on a filing or news report. Figures are the vendors' own claims unless noted.
One ERP was on our starting list, but its vendor markets it to small businesses and we could only confirm its new AI features through partner blogs, so another took its place.
